COURT MOURNING

Governor-General Cancels Engagements By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 21. In order to attend to affairs of State arising out of the death of the King, the Governor-General, Lord Galway, accompanied by Captain Heber-Percy, A.D.C., left for Wellington by the Limited express to-night. His Excellency will go into residence temporarily at Government House, Wellington. A period of court mourning will be observed in accordance with adviee which, will be received from England. As a result his Excellency and Viscountess Galway have announced the cancellation of several functions at Government House, Auckland, for which invitations have already been issued. These include a dinner and investiture arranged for January 30, a ball on February 7, a children’s party on February 8, and a tea party on February 11. _ Notice is also given of the cancellation of the undermentioned engagements which had been undertaken by their Excellencies:—A visit to the Y.M.C.A. boys’ camp at Hunua; the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s regatta at Kawau; a visit to tne Masonic Institute and Club; a reception by the Overseas League; luncheon by the Auckland Travel Club; dinner by the Household Brigade; a visit to the Y.W.C.A.; semi-finals and finals of the Auckland tennis tournament and dinner; the Auckland Anniversary regatta; a visit to the Honourable Artillery Company; a visit to the Women’s National Reserve; a visit to tbe Auckland Presbyterian Orphanages ; an at home by the Auckland exservicemen; the Auckland swimming championships; Toe H League of Women Helpers; Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show; National Flower Show at Auckland. At Wellington: A Y.W.C.A. garden party and the James Watt commemoration dinner.

It is expected the court will be in, full mourning for six months, and thereafter will remain in half mourning for a further period.
