Tributes By Tramway Men WORK FOR UNION The members of the Wellington Tramway Union attended in large numbers at St. Anne's Hall, Newtown, to congratulate one of their number on his having been elected member of Parliament for the Manawatu electorate in the last election. Mr. C. L. Hunter, M.P., was the guest of the evening, and he and Mrs. Hunter were enthusiastically received on entering the hall. Dancing commenced early to music supplied by Steele’s orchestra, the M.C. being Mr. E. Tanner.

During the evening Mr. C. S. Morton, president of the union, presented Mr. Hunter with a well-filled wallet, which had been freely subscribed to by members of 'the union. In makipg the presentation, Mr. Morton gave a resume of Mr. Hunter’s activities during his 13 years as a member of the union, niost of the time being in an Executive position, with three years as president. The hard work and enthusiasm displayed by Mr. Hunter was fully appreciated by the members, and had laid the foundation of life-long friendships. The union had greatly benefited by Mr. Hunter’s membership because of his honesty, his strict attention to details, and his ability to do the right thing at the righ't time. The members regretted losing Mr. Hunter as a member, but were delighted to know that he was taking up a position where his ability would be of great service to the community. Mrs. Hunter was presented with a bouquet by Miss Irene Smith, Mr. Hunter was greeted with great enthusiasm and musical honours. He thanked those present for the very hearty reception, and assured them that he would long remember the occasion. He had always enjoyed the work connected with the union, and he was delighted to think that, in spite of the many differences of opinion, he was still regarded as a friend. Mr. W. Broadley, secretary of the union, said that if Mr. Hunter put the same enthusiasm into the work of Parliament as he had done in the union, the electors of the Manawatu district would have no hesitation in returning him in future.

Musical items were given by Mrs Astill, Mr. ,Stan Croft, Mr. R. E. Smith, and a cornet solo was played by Mr. J. King.
