MAORI BOY’S THEFTS
Employer’s Precautions
Defeated
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Hamilton, January 21.
Undaunted by the efforts of his employer to keep him home at night, a 15-year-old Maori boy, clad only in a shirt, broke and entered the post office at Kinohaku, near Kawhia, and two stores, stealing £2/17/6 in money and goods valued at £B/11/6. It was explained by the police that the youth, who had previously been under the supervision of the Child Welfare Department, secured a position at Kinohaku, where his employer, to prevent a recurrence of his conduct, took the precaution of removing the youth’s trousers each evening. The boy left his bed clad only in a shirt, committing the offences enumerated. He was committed to the care of the Child Welfare Superintendent. Restitution of the stolen goods was ordered.
