Gathering at Lower Hutt To-night

Good entries have been received for the floodlight sports meeting to be held on the Lower Hutt recreation ground this-evening. The star attraction will be the appearance of E. J. Winter, the Australian pole-vaulter, who has just completed a successful tour of the Hawke's Bay district, where be broke the New Zealand record on several occasions. In addition to being a champion pole-vaulter, Winter is a fine all-round athlete and will probably be seen in action against Bowie, the New Zealand champion, in the 120yds. hurdles. Other prominent athletes who will be competing are Edgar Forne, New Zealand mile champion, Wilson, holder of the Wellington provincial title, Crowe, New Zealand high jump champion, Fitzsimmons, provincial sprint champion, and Roe, cycling champion. The main programme is timed to start at S p.m., but at 7 o'clock the 10mile road race will commence. The first runner is expected to reach the recreation ground a few minutes before 8 o’clock.

The Bellvue Rond gate will be closed and entrance to the ground will be through Myrtle Street aud Woburn Road gates only.
