The sale of store sheep at the weekly .Masterton sale to-day was one of the keenest for many years, owing to the abnormal flush of feed, rape crops in the Wairarapa being exceptionally good. All rape lambs made exceptional prices. Fat sheep remained at late rates, while the cattle, Which were all ex-dairy, were in keen demand, being bought by farmers to help keep down the growth of pastures, rigs also made kite rates. 'rhe New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Distributing Co., Ltd., submitted a yarding of 1000 sheep, comprising mostly rape lambs, -10 head of cattle and 28 pigs, to a large attendance of buyers, effecting a total clearance at the following range of prices:— Fat sheep: Light fat ewes, 12/9; fat woolly ewes, 14/6; light fat wethers, 21/-; fat lambs, 22/-. Store sheep: B.F. lambs, a/e. G. 11. Myers, 19/4; a/c. W. Horne, 19/3; a/e. J. 11. Barton, 19/3; w.w. lambs a/e. .1. L. Heckler, 19/3; a/e. Mrs. M. M. Halberg, 19/1; a/c. other vendors, medium b.f. lambs, 15/8 to 10/-; small wether lambs, 15/1 to 10/-; b.f. 2-tooth wethers, 21/-; small b.f. 2-tooth wethers, 17/3 to 18/-; w.f. 2-tooth wethers, 20/- to 21/-.. Cattle: Small steer, fl; forward empty'cows, 13/8/-; Jersey cows with calves. 13/7/-, 13/12/- to 11/6/-; vealers. 12 to 12/10/-. Pigs: Slips, 21/-. 22/- Io 21/-; good winners, 20/-; weaners, 10/- Io 16/6. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., offered a medium yarding of lambs at the above sale, realising the following prices: Fat and forward b.f. lambs, a/c. F. W. Parry, 19/8; fat shorn wether lambs a/e. F. W. Parry, 18/'-. Stud Romney Sale Feilding, January 14. Two hundred guineas was the top price received at the sale of stud Romneys to-day.. The vendor was IV. F. Jacob and Son, and the purchaser was Mr. G. M. Currie, Wanganui. From the same vendor F. 0. Johnston, Hawke’s Bay, purchased a Romney ram at 110 guineas. The Short Estate of Parorangi sold two at 110 guineas to A. Robottom, Hawke’s Bay, and M. .T. Short respectively. Other good sales made were on behalf of the Short Estate to Levin and Co. at 1024 guineas; A. L. Wheeler, who received 774gn5.; Jacob and Son, 60gns., 72Jgns. and lOOgns.; T. E. In the couclmling stages of tlie sale (lie bidding was keener and top quality sheep realised good stud values. Tlie top price of 200 guineas was obtained for an outstanding ram sold on account of W. There was a large yarding of store sheep and lambs ami very small entries of fat sheep and of cattle at. tlie Waipukurau weekly sale, held in wet weather. Seventy-two two-tooth ewes, good, 29/4; 25 f. ami f. -wethers, 22/3; 291 good two-tootli wethers, 21/7; 270 Southdown lambs, good line, 18/4; 267 others, 18/9; 183 Romney wether lambs, 18/4; 104 f. and f. Southdown lambs, 18/1; 75 Romney wether lambs, f. ami f„ IS/S; 225 w.f. two-tootli wethers, 20/9; 32 Southdown medium fat wethers, 21/6; 53 lambs, IS/9. Heavy Ayrshire cow, £5/5/-; 20 good store polled Angus steers, £8; three lighter, £6; four Foiled Angus cows, £3/2/-.
Mrs. Mabel McCormick, a 34-year-old blind musician, has divorced her sightless husband on grounds of desertion: she refused alimony because she could support herself in spite of her handicap. Thirteen were present at the last meeting of the French Academy, but one member was so terrified that ho had his name erased from the list of those attending, and left the assembly.
