Noises
Sir. —Oriental Bay continues to be afflicted by noises in great variety. They include noise from motor vehicles of various kinds—cycles, cars, trucks, city buses, •tram cars, sometimes yelping dogs along the water front, screeching children and young women, raucous voiced youths and young men, occasional speed boats on tlie harbour and aeroplanes. May it be here suggested that the control authority should prohibit aeroplanes from flying over the city except when going to and from the aerodrome on flight business trips other than, joy flying. Should there be people .who insist on seeing the city from the air they should be charged a special fee, in addition to that charged by the aeroplane owner, of at least 1/pcr trip. This fee or license to be collected in a way similar to the sales tax. The proceeds to be periodically paid to the Wellington Hospital and mental hospital authorities in equal shares for expenditure incurred in treating patients whose nerves are shattered by modern life. Much of the noise afflicting the bay could quite easily be abated without inconvenience or cost to anyone. M’ill our city fathers do anything about this?—l am, etc. TAXPAYER. Wellington, January 14.
