RESCUED FROM RIVER

Escape of Two Young Girls Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 14. When bathing in the Rangitikei River at Tangimoana yesterday, two girls about 15 years of age had a narrow escape from drowning. They were not strong swimmers and, getting beyond their depth, were soon in difficulties. A small child on the beach noticed their plight and attracted the attention of Constable Gillard, of Feilding, who is at present spending a holidayat the beach. He entered the water fully clothed and, with the assistance of Mr. Bell, of Ongarne, succeeded in rescuing the girls. The river is known to be dangerous for swimming, especially near the mouth.
