LAVISH EXPENDITURE ON DECORATIONS
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 13, 5.5 p.m.) Berlin, January 12. General Goering celebrated his fortythird birthday with the greatest party of his life and a ball at the State Opera House, lasting until 4 a.m., its splendour recalling Imperial Germany. There were 2100 guests, the majority paying 50 marks each admission for tickets, which nobody unknown to General Goering was allowed to buy. Herr
Hitler and Dr. Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, were not present. The decorations cost thousands of pounds. There were bowers of spring flowers, fountains played, while miles of satin and silver garlanded the roof. Thousands of bottles of champagne were sold at £1 apiece. The Crown Prince, in the uniform of the Death’s Head Hussars, ex-King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, Prince August Wilhelm, in the uniform of a storm trooper, and most of tlie diplomatic corps, including Sir Eric Phipps, British Ambassador, were present. The proceeds will be given to charity.
