English Appreciation Of Miss Coad’s Book
“United Empire,” the journal of the Royal Empire Society, had an appreciative note iff a recent issue .on Miss N. E. Coad’s book. “New Zealand From Tasman to Massey.” “Miss Coad,” it remarked, “has been an occasional contributor to ‘United Empire,’ and readers who recall her graphic and picturesque little articles on some phase of New Zealand’s record will know what to expect from this small, compact history, covering the time from, its discovery by the Dutch to the Premiership of W. F. Massey. She might indeed have made her title ‘From Tasman to Lord Bledisloe,’ as in the section dealing with the Treaty of Waitangi she devotes an interesting half page to the purchase and handing over to the nation by the Governor-General of the historic site on which the treaty was signed. The volume will be read with advantage by anyone who seeks an easy guide to the essentials of New Zealand’s chequered and romantic history, .and will no doubt find favour in Ihe popular schools.
