TO BE GIVEN SPELL
Jonathan and Gallio
BLANDFORD SIRE ARRIVES Dominion Special Service. Auckland. January 13. Mrs S. L. Parsons's good horses Jonathan and Gallio arc to be rested, and they will not be called upon to do any further racing until next season. Jonathan felt the effects of his three races at the summer meeting at Ellerslie, where he registered a brilliant win in the Railway Handicap, and then in bis next two starts failed to display his very best, although he made a very creditable showing in the Clifford Plate, which was decisivelywon by Cuddle. As a result of the injury he received about 15 months ago Jonathan now has to be very carefully handled, and A. Cook deserves credit for having brought him back to winning form. Following his victory in the Great Northern foal stakes, Gallio ricked himself slightly, and in view of the fact that he has had some fairly hard races, it has been deemed advisable to put him by for the time being. Up to the present Gallio has started six times for three, firsts, two seconds and a third, so that his form has been very- consistent. Gallio’s winnings total £9lO, and he_has proved a cheap purchase at the 250 guineas he eost as a yearling. The thoroughbred stallion, SolicitorGeneral, who was recently purchased iu England by the Elderslie Stud Company. Oamaru. reached Auckland by the lonic on Sunday and'will be carried on to Port Chalmers, where he will be unloaded. Solicitor-General is a five-year-old bay horse by Blandford from Dail.
