MERCANTILE LEAGUE CRICKET

Rosencath Show Good Form PASTIMES TAKE LEAD B GRADE After a break of two weeks, competition games in the different grades conducted by the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League were resumed on Saturday in line but windy weather, and on fast wickets, which in the main favoured scoring. Rosencath were responsible for a fine performance in their game with Amalgamated Bricks. With 228 to get they punched the bowling along to score a meritorious win with live wickets in hand. Two tine batting performances were recorded by C. F. Murphy and W. Jupp, each of whom scored a century. But for a useful 74 by Jeffery, Hospital would have been hard pressed by Woolworths, who, however, failed in their batting. Prestige Hosiery outplayed Taxes Department, while Smith and Smiths, showing much improved form, inflicted a severe defeat upon Public Trust. Jasco scored a very easy win over Customs, They passed the score set them with six wickets in hand, and went on to reach the double century. Noot showed a welcome return to his best batting form. The two unbeaten B grade teams, Pastimes and Taubmans, met at Athletic Park, Pastimes winning by 49 runs to take the lead in the grade. AT A GLANCE Hospital 162 for nine wickets, declared, beat Woolworths 89. Roseneath 240 for five wickets, beat Amalgamated Bricks 227 for eight wickets, declared. . Prestige Hosiery 176 for three wickets, declared, beat Taxes Department 95 and 78 for three wickets. Jasco 210, beat Customs 175. Smith and Smiths 208 beat Public Trust 85.
