Diiin-duni bullets, the use of which in tlie Abyssinian war has been strenuously denied by both sides, take their name from tlie cantonment of Dum-Dum, near Calcutta. Dum-Dum was the headquarters of Hie Bengal Artillery from 1783 to 1553. Later it was famous for its ammunition factory. It vas there Unit tlie hollow-nosed “dum-dum’’ were first manufactured. An international declaration was made at tlie Hague Conference of 1599 forbidding the use of such bullets.
