IN THE HOLY LAND
Christmas Celebrations FEW BRITISH TOURISTS (Received December 26, 9.5 p.m.) Jerusalem, December 26. Christmas celebrations at Bethlehem were attended by thousands of pilgrims from all parts of the world, but were marked, however, by a conspicuous absence of British or American tourists at the Christmas Eve ceremonies at the Church of the Nativity. A particular feature of observances in the Holy Land this year was the participation of Ethiopians, although their Christmas holidays officially begin a fortnight hence. Their prayers were offered for the success of their forces against Italy. The ringing of the bells at the Basilica adjoining the Church of the Nativity opened the British Empire broadcasting this afternoon.
