TRADE HINDRANCES

Effect of Quotas and Other Restrictions POLICY OF BRITAIN (Received December 18, 7.30 p.m.) London, December 17. Questioned about the effect of quotas and other trade restrictions on freight, the President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runciman, in the House of Commons, amid ironical Opposition cheers, said the policy of the Government was to provide for the removal of such restrictions. Sir Percy Harris asked Mr. Runciman if he had seen the statement of the chairman of the P. and O. Company pointing out the serious effects of restrictions on the shipping trade between Australia and Britain.

Mr. Runciman: Yes; I shall pay attention to that and similar recommendations.
