TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND
Electrical Engineering Magnate (Special to “The Dominion.”) Perth, December 9. A member of the executive commission of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. J. Sigfrid Edstrom, who is president of the International Athletic Federation and vice-president of the Swedish Gymnastic and Athletic Association, is on his way to pay a visit to Australia and New Zealand, accompanied by his wife. Mr. Edstrom is one of the leading
magnates in the electrical engineering field of Europe, and for a number of years has been a prominent figure in Swedish commercial and industrial circles. He is chairman of the Swedish Federation of Industrial Employers and of the Federation of Electrical Industries, in Sweden. AVith Air. C. A. Wicander, he was a member of a trade delegation which recently undertook inquiries in South Africa on behalf of the Swedish Government, and they are now making a survey of the Commonwealth’s trade possibilities, unofficially. In Perth Air. Edstrom said the immense programme embarked upon in Germany for the forthcoming Olympic Gaines provided for an expenditure by the Government of a sum exceeding £1,100,000 sterling. He has inspected the new Olympic stadium, which will accommodate 105,000 spectators. Air. Edstrom strongly favours the adoption of the metric system in sport in Australia. Mr. and Mrs.- Edstrom expect to arrive in AVellington early in the new year, and after a stay in New Zealand will return to Sweden ria America.
