R.S.A. Card Party

There was a big attendance on Tuesday evening at the headquarters of the Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay and Melrose Auxiliary Committee of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association, Bay Road, Kilbirnie, to take part in the weekly card tournament. Mrs. W. Jorgenson and Mr. AV. Torkington were the prize 'winners at bridge, and Mrs. S. Stewart and Mr. J. Mulholland won the prizes for "500.” An aggregate prize for the highest score at ‘“500” over the past six tournaments was won by Mrs. A. Con per. Mr. D. Gunn, chairman of the auxiliary, stated that as it appeared to be the wish of the card players to continue the tournaments throughout the holiday season, this would be arranged. Appreciative references were made by the chairman to the work of the ladies’ committee throughout the year, and bouquets were presented to Mesdames H. Q. Bruce and H. M. Harris, president and secretary-treasurer respectively of the ladies’ committee. Afternoon Tea i Mrs. E. D. Good, assisted by her daughter, Miss Dorothy Good, entertained a few friends at the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. The draw-ing-room, where Mrs. Good received her guests, was tastefully decorated with vases and bowls of pink carnations and sweet peas. Those present were: Madame Nihotte, Mrs. G. A. Bucklin, Mrs. J. Payne, Mrs. S. Symon, Mrs. W. Sutch, Mrs. Schmitt, J. Helyer and Mrs. T. Gray.

The matron of the Red Cross Home, 80 Hobson Street. Wellington, acknowledges with grateful thanks gifts from the following: Mrs. Birch, Miss Borchardt, Mr. Grainger, Mr. Nelson.
