Wairarapa Leads on First Innings RONGOTAI BATSMEN FAIL Having lost one wicket for 40 runs at the end of the first day's play, Rongotai College seemed to be in a promising position in their match with Wairarapa High School at the Kilbirnie Recreation Ground, when they resumed their innings yesterday—Wairarapa had made 198 — but the batsmeu were unable to master steady bowling and the innings closed for 11!) runs, Wairarapa hit up 63 for four wickets and "declared, leaving Rongotai 142 runs'to get in less than an hour for a win. At stumps, Rongotai had scored 54 runs for the loss of one wicket. J. Wall and J.*Kenner continued Rongotai’s first innings. Each played attractive strokes, but neither could dominate the bowling. Wall added 14 to his overnight score of 24 and then was bowled leg before wicket by S. Slatter; Kenner was bowled by Parsonson and a rot set in, Slatter being mainly responsible, taking five wickets for 25 runs, while Parsonson took four for 29. Wairarapa did not face the bowling very confidently, though J. Alexander, after an early escape, made 25, showing good footwork and some strong strokes to the on.
