General Committee Meets The general committee of the Marton Jockey Club met on Saturday evening, Mr. 11. J- B- McManaway presiding. Also present were Messrs. J. R, L. Stanford J. Bull, E. Openshaw, F. R. 11. Bruce, A. 11. Marshall, A. T. Gatrell, 11. J. Cameron, J. McDonell, K. R. Scoon, W. R. Duncan, 11. T. Whale, and A. Way (secretary). Mr. Norman Hyde, founder of the Children’s Home qt “Armagh House,” Marton, was granted permission 'to use the course and appointments at the Marton racecourse for their annual camp at Easter. It was decided to install three loudspeakers of the Borham’s Radio Service for a description of the races as they are being run and an expert announcer will be engaged. The New Zealand Racing Conference wrote stating that an extra running permit had been granted the Marton Jockey Club for this season, and it is possible that the club will hold the meeting on Saturday, May 2. Mr. J. McLeod, president of the New Zealand Racing Conference, and also several members' of Cabinet, will be present at the meeting at New Year and will be entertained by the stewards. Th e secretary reported that excellent nominations had been received and indications pointed to a most successful meeting. The course and grounds were in first-class order. The totalisator will be conducted on the “win” and “place” system. On the “place” system the dividends will be paid out in a proportion of 75 per cent, to the first horse and 25 per cent, to the second horse in the event of five or more starters. Extra seating accommodation will be provided for members and visitors on the members’ stand.
