Earthquake Safeguards.

At present workmen are engaged in removing overhanging parapets and projecting decorations from the main Northland School building. The roof is to be strengthened later by the use of reinforcing steel rods. Tne object of the work is to make the school as earth-quake-resisting as is possible without rebuilding. When the work is finished and the building painted, the school will be much simpler in design and more pleasing in appearance. The Education Department has authorised a number of schools throughout the country to be strengthened as a precautionary measure against earthquakes.
