The present spell of warm, sunny weather has brought plenty of kingfish into the shallower waters of Auckland Harbour, and catches have been made off Western Wharf, Prince’s Wharfand the jetties at Stanley Bay and Ponsonby. The record fish was probably a 31-pounder, caught last week from Western Wharf. II was taken with a dead sprat hooked on a wire trace and a strong line. The depised pakiti was responsible for the capture of a big “kingie” off the old jetty at Ponsonby. After setting his line, with a match stuck in a crevice of the wharf rail to indicate a bite, the angler dozed off. He was aroused by a shout, “You’ve got a bite,” and he awoke in earnest when lie seized the line, for a kingfish of even moderate .size is a great puller. The one that took the pakiti weighed ISlb.
