PERSONAL

Ministerial. The Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, accompanied by his chief private secretary, Mr. O. A. Jeffery, left Wellington last, night by the Limited express for Auckland, where he will remain until after the New Year holidays. To-night the Prime Minister will be tendered a civic reception in the northern city. During his stay in Auckland Mr. Savage will attend to State business at the Ministerial suite in the Chief Post Office.

The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister ot Internal Affairs, will leave Wellington bv the Limited express this evening for Auckland, where lie will reside for about a fortnight, During this week the Minister will be kept busy dealing with an accumulation of departmental affairs in the north.

The Hon. W. L. Martin, Minister of Agriculture, will leave Wellington this; afternoon for the Raglan district. He will spend the Yuletide holidays at his home at Matangi.

Sir Louis Barnett, accompanied by Lady Barnett, left Wellington last night for Dunedin. The Rt. Rev. 11. W. Williams, Bishop of Waiapu, left Wellington last night for the South Island. Vice-Admiral J. E. T. Harper, who is revisiting New Zealand after an absence of 42 years, left Wellington for the South Island last night.

Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., travelled south last night from Wellington. Major A. J. Edney left Wellington for the north last night. Mr. C, J. B. Norwood was a passenger from Wellington last night for the south.

Mr. P. N. Jeffreys, Christchurch, travelled south last night from Wellington. Mr. E. W. Ackland left Wellington for the south last night. Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., was a passenger from Wellington last night for the north. Mr. P. W. Maddock, general manager for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (N.Z.), Ltd., has returned to Wellington from Auckland.

Mr. F. L. Combs has been elected a member of the council of Victoria University College, Wellington, by teachers in public schools to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. F. H. Bakewell. Mr. Combs received 533 votes, and the other delegate, Mr. A. N. Burns, 261.
