“Lots of people have been asking me why I am retiring when I am still apparently a man in the prime of life,” said Mr. A. Macgregor, retiring headmaster of the Mount Eden School, Auckland, at his farewell. “I wondered the same myself until last week. I was teaching Standard VI and I noticed that one boy had his head down and appeared to be reading something under the desk. ‘What are you doing, Jones? Learning something?’ I asked. ‘No, sir,’ he said, ‘l’m listening to you.’ That settled it.”
