More and more the modern world.of women is coming to the conclusion that good grooming is at least half the way to beauty. Everywhere nowadays one sees .some girl who is not at all beautiful but passes for it because tier hair is gleaming and smartly done, her complexion perfectly cared for, and her makeup artistically chosen ami applied— in fact, because ail the details of her appearance are just rigid. “Only careless women are plain.” said a well-known dress designer in Paris recently, and this statement is really not at all exaggerated. If you are not possessed of real beauty make up your mind to be well groomed and you will be sure to have distinction, which is just as attractive to-day to men and women alike.

The plain girl who still looks charming is the girl who makes ii.se of the numerous beauty gadgets which are to be had today in ail the big stores It is rarely that one sees perfect eyelashes, therefore we find invented for our use that fascinating little gadget, the eyelash curler. Curled eyelashes make, the eyes'look much larger and brighter. If mascara is used the eyelash curler should be employed while the lashes are still damp Ur the lashes may be damped with a simple solution ot sugar and water and then coaxed alluringly upwards.

To make this solution melt a teaspoonful of sugar in just enough water to dissolve it and apply it warm to the lashes. Sugar is good for the eyes—in fact sugar and salt together make an ideal summer eye bath While on the subject of eyes one must not forget that other essential, the eyebrow tweezer. A few scattered hairs, growing too high or too low, look ill-cared for, and quite spoil the effect of otherwise pretty brows. Make up your mind what line of eyebrow is best for your particular type, and use your eyebrow pluckers religiously. An almost invisible eyebrow line is out of fashion at present. As a rule it is best to follow the natural line of the brow, and to remove only those refractory hairs which refuse to toe the line.

Before plucking the brows hold a hot wet cloth to them. This opens the pores and makes the small operation quite

Do not lie afraid to brush thoroughly the nose, chin and forehead. A face brush properly and regularly used, has a splendid effect even on the underlying muscles and tissues of the face, and so helps to keep lines and hollows at bay.

After the brushing of the face and neck, massage in a nourishing skin food which will be doubly nourishing when the skin is stimulated and cleansed by the brush friction.

One more necessary gadget is the hair remover—glove or stone. In very hot weather when comfort tempts so many girls to go stockingless, or when bathing gowns are the order of the day, any hair on the legs gives an immediate appearance, of slovenliness and bad grooming.

These hair removers cost only a tew pence and are most effective. In a few minutes any hair or down can be smoothed away with them quite easily. There is a little art in doing this. Use the glove or stone briskly, working round first in one direction and then in the other. In the studyof good grooming it must never be forgotten that a number of details go to make up the whole.
