GOOD-NIGHT
Under the gathering darkness. When the birds and bees arc still, A fairy world begins to wake In the toooden land on the hill. Down in the shadowy darkness The violet nods its head, The long grey bullrushes quiver, For the light of the day is dead. And now as the twilight lingers, Then hurries on silver wings, I hear the voice of a fairy As a lullaby soft she sings. And the sombre pines they quiver, And the poplar bows its head, For the sweet voice of the fairy says, "Little ones should be in bed." —Original by Bright Eyes (9) Carterton.
