SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES

Wellington Market Prices Sheepskins showed an easier tendency, but hides were, firm at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers. Moderate-sized catalogues of sheepskins were offered, prices showing an easing on late quotations. Sound pelted parcels were about Jd. and at times 4d. lower. Shabby, seedy and inferior lots ‘were fully id. lower. Sales were made at up to 9’jd. for fine crossbreds, medium crossbreds sold at 9Jd., and coarse crossbreds to BJd. There was only a small offering of salteds, values being without much change. There was a good demand for all descriptions of hides. The market showed a better tone; medium and lightweights selling 1-Sd. to jd. better, while heavies sold well up to the level of last sale's quotations. Kip, yearling and calf were in request at last sale’s values. The export demand for tallow at the moment is quiet, and values generally were slightly easier for the small offering submitted.
