Companions Unable to Help By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, December 8. While bathing iu a. backwash of the Clutha River this afternoon Charles Farquhar, residing at Te Houka, got out of his depth in a bole ami was drowned. Mr, Farquhar with two brothers and another two men went rabbit .shooting, and about 3 o’clock decided to have a bathe. Shortly after he entered the water Mr. Farquhar was seen to disappear, and as none of the party could swim efforts at rescue were useless.

Up till 7 p.m. the body had not been recovered.
