CHURCH SERVICE

Invitation to Council

When the Petone Borough Council received an invitation from the Wesley Methodist Church to attend a civic service on October 13, the Mayor, Mr. A. Scholefield, pointed out that a previous service only he and Or. V. A. Noble attended. If the councillors were not prepared to attend, then it would be just as well to ttii'ii the invitation down. Cr. D. M. Dickson said the question should be put to the vote of the council. He did not think it was time for the mayor or anyone else to put a catechism to the council as to whether it should attend any particular church service. The Mayor: I don’t intend to. Mr. Scholefield said he would not dream of taking a vote, but he wanted an assurance of councillors that they would attend. Cr. R. AV. Toomath said his business would preclude him from attending. It was decided to accept the invitation, and it was agreed that as many councillors as possible should attend.
