THE SOCIAL ROUND

Gift Evening A bright and novel . “Gift Evening” was arranged recently by the committee of the E.S.U. Younger Circle, in honour of their secretary, formerly Miss Marjorie Stiles, and her husband, Mr. Tracey Simpson. The Misses Holm kindly lent their residence in Patanga Crescent for the occasion. All the guests arrived representing a well-known book, and a great deal of imagination had been at work in preparing the varied and amusing “favourites” of the book shelves. Some very clever and original ideas w-ere introduced, including “A Knight on Wheels,” "A Just Recompense,” “Vanity Fair,” “Patchwork,” and “Tom Sawyer.” Much amusement was caused by a charade acted by Misses A. Beere and*V. Carr, and Messrs. M. Kennedy and T. Sutch, the obscure word being “Irak.” Community singing led by Miss Iris Mason and other games helped to make a very jolly evening. The opening of the parcels caused a lot of fun, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson thanked all present for helping to give them a delightful evening, and expressed great appreciation of the charming and useful gifts. Among those present were Misses Holm, E. M. Black, Cook, Valerie Carr, Audrey Picot, Betty Tonge, Joan and Adrienne Beere, Betty Emmett, I. Clark, J. Cummings, Sybil Williams, Dorothy Perkins, Iris and Zelma Mason, P. McKenzie, Evelyn Johnson, Joan Perry, Betty Koeford, Cora Duncan, Noel Anderson and J. Griffiths; Messrs. L. J. Rathgen, S. The guests, who consisted mainly of old school friends of Miss Jefferies, included Mrs. B. A. Marris, Misses Marjorie Murie, Janie Turner, Jean McLay, Pat Gledhill, Milly Gledhill, Elizabeth Bohm, Helen Moodie, Marie DuITOII, Elaine Hay, Dora Tonks. Members of the head office staff,of the Mental Hospitals Department, gathered at the D.1.G., Wellington yesterday, for a tea party given ip honour of Miss M. McGuire, whose marriage will take place shortly. A basket of fragrant wallflowers decorated the table, and those present all took the opportunity of wishing their fellow staff-member future happiness. Among those present were Mrs. Dick, Misses Fisher, Curtis, Hickey, Crowley, Bare, Rodger, Roberts and Head. Large vases of brilliant rhododendrons brightened the tables at the D.I.C. yesterday, when Mrs. W. J. Wray was hostess at a delightful tea party to bid farewell to Mists Harris, who will leave Wellington shortly. Among the guests were Mesdames Haslett, Sutton, Algar, Barnett and Mc-Dou-gall.

Since your kitchen is your workshop, and your utensils are your tools, it is wise to remember that you are liable to be judged by the condition of your kitchen, and the aptitude you express in handling your kitchen utensils.
