COLLEGE BOXING
Tournament at Rongotai Rougotai College boys ranging in weight from 661 b. to 1711 b. treated parents and friends to an interesting display of boxing at the college last Friday evening. The preliminary rounds of the tournament had been fought during the week, and for the finals Mr. Curtayne, of the Wellington Boxing Association, was in the ring, the assisting judges being Ser-geant-Major O’Leary and Mr. Scotney. Results of the finals are as follow: — Bantamweight, B class: Norton-Taylor beat Child.
Middleweight, B class: Hill beat Lobb. Lightweight: Barber beat Parkin. Mosquito-weight: Sissons beat Hamelin. Featherweight: Thomson beat Muir. Bantamweight, class A: Sefton beat Turnbull.
Paper, B: Miller beat Rassmussen. Flyweight: Gibson beat Grey. Paperweight, A class: Smith beat Jacobsen.
Welterweight: Wall beat Richards, who retired with an injured eye.
Middleweight, class A: Trillo beat Mount joy. School championship: Covcny beat McLennan. In this bout Coveny was giving away 421 b., and it took all his skill to keep his opponent off. McLennan put up a first-class display and seems a goad heavyweight in the making. Boxing Association medal for the most scientific display: P. Smith, winner of the paperweight. School medal for gamest display by a loser: B. Synnott.
Boxing Shield for teams’ aggregate: Trojan team (leader, B. Synott).
