Masterton Championships

WIN FOR H. K. SMITH Dominion Special Service. Masterton, September 7. Thirty-live members of the Mastertoll Miniature Rifle Chib participated in the club championships fired on the range this afternoon, and again this evening. There was some good shooting, four possibles being recorded during the afternoon, the successful marksmen being H. K. Smith, F. Gray, P. Russell, and J. Whiteman. The conditions were three shoots of ten shots each, while the ten highest scorers had to z fire off for the club championship,’ which went to H. K. Smith, with a grand total of 397 points out of a possible of 400. E. M. Wrigley, last year’s winner, and J. Whiteman, tied for second place, but in a subsequent shoot-off Wrigley filled .second place. Following are the detailed results, of the senior championship-H. K. King won the ladies’ championship with a score of 290, while Miss Brader was runner-up with a tally of 286, The handicap championship went to J. Whiteman, whose score, with handicap added, was 296-1-1, while F. Gray was runner-up with. 296-8. A shoot-off was necessary to decide the runner-up in the latter event, while a shoot-off was necessitated in the B grade 'between L. Renall and D. P. Donald, and also in the junior championship to decide the runner-up. the two contestants being F. Dick and R. V. Mason, the latter eventually winning. (Association Cup rules), R. Wellington. At the conclusion of the shooting, the president of the club, Mr. It. J. King, congratulated the various winners on their success, and also congratulated the club on its successful season. He then presented the winners with their trophies, the secretary, Mr. G. Murdoch, receiving an engraved fountain pen, in recognition of his services. Mr. H. K. Smith, the club captain, made the presentation. The thanks of the cluii are due to Mr. R. A. Copeland, of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club, who carried out all the scrutineering in connection with the championships. Considerable amusement was caused during the supper interval., by a' burlesque liresentation of prizes carried out by women members of the clu'b.
