Mortgage Corporations Active
' markets hardening again
A marked improvement was shown yesterday on th.' Wellington stock and share markets, which displayed a firmer tone all round. Business was more active and a fairlv substantial turnover was recorded. Government loans were in strong demand, the 4 per cents., 1949. selling at £llO and the 19at>’s at £ll2/10/-. A feature of the day’s business was the native trading in Mortgage Corporation shares, of which ten parcels sold at b/and six others at 6/3. . It is that the corporation s issue of ioOO,VU’J debenture stock at 3 3-S per cent, is already well over-subscribed. Banks showed a firmer tendency on a much improved demand. Commercial of Australia advanced to business at 10/U. Dalgetys were 1/- up at £B/6/-. 1^ offers from holders, and Gold.sbrou„h Morts were wanted at 32/6. Buyers advanced to 60/- for Equitable Buildings, but sellers stood firm at £5. Industrial and trading issues, showed a hardening tendency in many cases. Broken Hill Proprietary improved to business at 66/9. Buyers stayed in at 67/-, holders moving up t” Aus X ra , linn Glass were firmer at 82/6. New Zealand Breweries had two sales at 51/- and another at 51/3. There was. a rather better inquiry for gold-mining issues..
