That faculty that boys have for disappearing when trouble is brewing caused a comical situation to arise at the Wellington competitions. During the judging of a class for dancers some boys near the stage caused a little disturbance which distracted the competitors from their dancing, and a complaint was made to the stage manager. The latter, used to dealing with boys, appeared and gave the miscreants a “dressing down.” but as he continued to speak he realised that there seemed to be only one or two boys in the whole hall, which caused him to end his speech with “. . . wherever you are.” The boys who had been too prominent had vanished before the stage manager had come out.
