BOSANQUET’S LETTERS

“Bernard Bosanquet and His Friends.” letters edited by J. H. Muirhead, Professor Emeritus, of the University of Birmingham. (London: Allen and Unwin.)

In the course of a correspondence with Dr. Henry Baker, of Edinburgh University, relating to Bosanquet, the question arose as to when Bosanquet could be regarded as having accepted the metaphysical doctrines of F, H. Bradley, and this led Professor Muirhead to make an effort to trace the early correspondence of Bernard Bosanquet. He accordingly took steps to gain possession of any letters which might be in existence, and was rewarded for his labours with a wealth of information as to the sources and the development of the philosophical opinions of Bosanquet, as well as many intimate glimpses of the great man’s friends. i Bernard Bosanquet is generally recognised as the central figure of British philosophy of the first quarter of the present century, and, apart from this, his personal letters have a human Interest which should make an appeal outside the' immediate crcle of students of philosophy, to whom all his works are of importance.
