MONTBRETIAS

Plant Them Now Montbretias are among the most vivid of summer and autumn flowers. They have an obvious relationship to gladioli, both in shape of leaf and flower. The former, however, are much smaller. What gladioli so well express in magnificence montbretias express in daintiness. If you have none of these flowers in your mixed border, you really should plant a few clumps before it is too late. Provided your border was prepared in the usual way, thpre is no need to enrich it further. If you feel that a little food is necessary, mix equal parts ■well-rotted stable manure and leafmould. The best way is to take out the soil to a depth of Ift. and when returning it mix with each painfull a quarter-pailful of the compost stated. Where no manure is necessary, fork a foot deep and break up the soil finely.
