SHOPPING WITH A NOTEBOOK

Felicity and Her Spring

Wardrobe

(By

Betty R.)

Wasn’t it exciting last month, waiting for the sales to end and wondering excitedly what new glories those spring goods were going to open to us. And now we know—or have a very good i<iea at any rate! There arc about three entirely new shades; hats are delightful 1 floral silks are a womlerlam| 1 Felicity says there are dozens and dozens of features that are making Spring, 1035, an epoch. “You must have noticed how different everything is,” she urged. “The undies, the scarves, the gloves, th > length of one's skirt, the angle of one’s hat.” Felicity will explain what, she means ■when she begins to tell you how niagniticentlj- the shops have risen to the occasion. A more delightful array of charming spring goods than those now on display in Wellington is hard to imagine. These are Felicity’s observations, and they are really worth while!

Spring Says Suits. Field’s Fashion House, 294 Lambton Quay, dresses women who have personality to express on limited incomes. Dashing little spring, tailored suits from 49/6 —then there are the light iweed coats in latest shades, with detachable capes, and delightful floral frccks in the newest of the new styles, ranging from 39/6. You’ll see them all at Fields.

Function Gowns Are Distinction. For the dinner party, the cocktail hour, the garden party, Jay’s function gowns excel. I saw a lovely thing in jade green lace with divided fur-trim-med cape; a blue taffeta full-length skirt had a striking blouse in cape handkerchief style. And then there were florals —exotic shade combinations in pure silk; paler florals in georgette and ninon. And every beautiful creation is matched with exquisite imported jewellery or distinctive model millinery ! The Spring Millinery Has ArrivedThe “Paramount” is opening hats! I peeped in the door the other day in Lambton Quay, and what a revelation —there were hats for young and hats for old, hats for the plain and hats for the beautiful, hats for small heads and large-fitting hats for matrons. The outstanding models were the fascinating Barnyard Straws of Jubilee Fame, but the new Breton Sailor, was a keen competitor. And every single Paramount model simply sang Spring! Spring Ideas in Lingerie. Nighties and pyjamas this spring are essentially feminine—lace trimming and insertions are most important—nighties are pleated and tucked—pyjamas feature charming new cape and basque effects. You must see too those flattering imported French crepe de chine sets at Doll Bond Street. Don’t forget 1-hr. hosiery repair service.

Suggestions by Alcthca. ' Linen suits, says Alethea, Lambton Quay, arc more than important this spring—they, arc essential! One thing. I know, they are perfectly irresistible in Alethea's ultra-smart styles, with big novelty buttons and demure ties. There are floral silks, too—and hats to match every gown or suit in your wardrobe! The Essential Details in Your Spring Outfit.

Gloves, so important this spring, are also most exciting items at the Grand Hosiery Box, 16 Willis Street—fabric, kid, angelskin and doeskin, range from 2/11 to 13/11, and are all very, very new. See, too, those new light shades in spring hosiery! The, New Idea—

In spring ensembles, is to have your figured silk frock matched with a light woollen coat —ever so smart, and giving just that desired extra warmth. Wilson’s have some charming models in these ensembles, some with flattering cape effects. I noticed some smart English tailored costumes, too, and the last word in spring millinery is American model hats. You really must see those hats—Wilson’s is at No. 52, Willis St. (opp. Windsor Hotel).

W/icn Choosing That Spring HandbagLet me remind you of those handsome morocco bags at the Disabled Soldiers’ shop in Farish Street. In popular colours these, smart bags are artistically designed in hand poker work and are quite the smartest bags of the season. Don’t you think one would just complete that .ew spring suit?

Where Did You Get Those Stockings? Tuckwell’s, my dear —didn’t you know—they’ve opened v simply devastating women's department in Nathan’s Bldgs.—too exciting—these stockings, for instance —only 6/11. And"wonderful wearing—Avon, they’re called. Have You Seen the Spring Materials? ’ Needles are flying, scissors cutting, for everyone is buying spring materials at the Hub, the city Silk Store. All the latest materials and the newest shades are there —36in. silk-finish Cranmer Crepe, in 50 different colours, is very popular at 1/6; glorious floral r.iarocains are only 2/6 yard; there is the new crepe d'oro in attractive floral designs, reduced from 5/11 to 3/11, as a Spring Special; 36in. floral georgettes are marvellous value at 3/6, in a range of distinctive patterns. Then there is merrymaid print, 36in. wide, fresh and dainty, and guaranteed fast colours, at 1/9 yard; and this special purchase of white Bemberg silk is going for only lOJd; boiling silk in all colours, 36in. wide, is 1/6. I could go on for a long time talking of these wonder values —cottons, silks, satins, georgettes, woollens —but you can see them so easily for yourself. The Hub is in Willis St., just a few doors from MeKenzie’s.

Spring Frocks by Marinda Thew! Marinda Thew has some charming suggestions for making up your spring materials. Bring them to 146 Willis Street (next Y.M.C.A.). Charges are most reasonable, and cut and fit guaranteed. Spring Clean Your Furs.

Brine along those furs and fur coats ami have them renovated for the spring! The Wholesale Furriers, 5 Willis St., specialise in all fur renovations, alterations, cleaning, dyeing and relining. Men’s spring wear is as important as the ladies —or nearly so. Fowld’s. the men’s outfitters.
