MR. SCULLIN RESIGNS
X Leader of Opposition PROBABLE SUCCESSOR (Received August 28, 12.35 a.m.) Melbourne, August 27.
Mr. J. 11. Scullin, Leader of the official Labour Opposition in the Commonwealth Parliament, has tendered his resignation of that office owing to indifferent health.
It is regarded as certain that his successor will be Mr. Francis Michael Forde, member for Capricornia, Queensland, who has been deputyleader of the party since 1931.
The Rt. Hon. James -Henry Sculhn was born in Victoria, in 1876. He entered the House of Representatives in 1910, representing Corangamite (Victoria) until 1913. He later became editor of the “Evening Echo,” Ballarat. Since 1922 he has been member for Yarra. He has been leader of the Federal Labour Party since 1928, and was Prime Minister from 1929 to 1932. Since then he has led the Opposition. He was made a Privy Councillor in 1930.
