WELLINGTON-WAIRARAPA
The management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last night appointed Mr. R. J. Burke as manager of the Wellington team which is to play Wairarapa at Masterton on Saturday next. It was announced that Mr. 11 Matson had been selected as referee. It was announced that the South-, land team, which is to play Wellington at Athletic Park on Wednesday next, will arrive on Sunday morning. Major T. J. King was appointed to meet the Southland team on its arrival. The visitors will go on to Auckland on Wednesday night. Championship Winners.
On the motion of Major T. J. King, hearty congratulations were offered the Petone club upon its success in carrying off the senior A first division championship for 1935.
It was decided to close the senior A second division competition, and to award the championship to the St. Patrick’s College Old Boys team.
The senior B championship was awarded to the Athletic club’s team.
Permission to Play Matches.
Permission was granted to play the following matches: Wellington and Petone Salvation Army Bands, Hutt Park, August 31; Eastbourne • Club, married v. single, September 14; Wellington Division Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, annual inter-company matches, September 7 and 14; Church of Christ. South Wellington v. Vivian Street, September 7; National Dairy Association v. Birch and Co., Ltd., Prince of Wales Park, September 14; Karori club, married v. single, September 7; Karori v. Gladstone, September 14; Wellington club, Levin Shield competition. Athletic Park, October 5; Marist Brothers’ Old Boys (Wellington) v. St. Patrick's club (Palmerston North), at Palmerston North, August 31; Horowhenua juniors v. Wellington juniors, Otaki, September 14. A further grant of £95 was made to the Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association. Some Protests. The Institute club wrote protesting that the Moera club had played a Rugby League player in its third C grade team against Institute on August 10. It was decided to ask the Moera club for an explanation. The Johnsonville club wrote protesting that St. Patrick's College Old Boys’ club had played ineligible players in the third grade match against Johnsonville on August 3. It was decided to ask the St. Patrick’s College Old Boys’ club for au explanation. A fifth grade player, who was ordered off the field by the referee on Saturday last for talking, was suspended until he appears before the union, ?
