Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 4 p.m. to-day:— An anti-cyclone is situated over the Tasman Sea. its front covering the Dominion, but it appears to be losing intensity. South-westerly winds prevailing, light to moderate generally, but strong westerly in the far south. Seas rough about Foveaux Strait; rather rough on parts of the west coast of the North Island; elsewhere in New Zealand waters smooth to moderate. Moderate southerly winds and moderate seas in the eastern Tasiqan Sea. Weather fine generally, but a few isolated showers likely on the west coast and in the far south. Cold temperatures, with many frosts to-night. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Fine and sunny, with a light, variable wind, mostly from the south, during the afternoon. Minimum temperature on Sunday night, da-deg.; maximum yesterday, 54.0 deg.; at 4 p.m., 49.3 deg. . Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, ml. Rainfall for August, 2.985 in.; for year, 25.675 in. Palmerston North. —Showery in the morning, but fine and sunny, with a few passing clouds in the afternoon; cool south-westerly breeze. Masterton. —Bright sunshine; warm temperature; light westerly breeze. Wanganui.—Mild and showery. Waipukurau.—A dull, cold day with raiu threatening. Auckland. —A fresh west-south-west wind and cloudy, unsettled conditions, rain being experienced. There was a fog for a short period during the afternoon. The barometer fell to 29.90 in., then steadied. Cliristchurch. —Fine and sunny. The barometer was steady at about 30.00 in. Dunedin. —Fine, with passing cloud and sunshine. A fresh south-west wind was blowing, and the maximum temperature was 52deg. Jhe barometer fell during the day and registered 29.82 in. last night.
