Labour Envoy’s Mission

The secretary of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, Mr. F. D. Cornwell, who represented ; the New Zealand Labour movement at the recent meeting of the International Labour Office at Geneva, will arrive at Sydney on September 5 ou his way back to New Zealand. While in Australia Mr. Cornwell will investigate the operation of the apprenticeship laws with a view to reporting upon them on his return to Wellington. The proposal to establish a 40-hour week for industry, which has long been advocated by Labour iu New Zealand, was discussed at Geneva, and Mr. Cornwell contributed to the debate there. He will report fully to the Trades and Labour Council on the Geneva proceedings, and is expected to make recommendations to the Labour movement in the light of information he has gained on his tour.
