As a result of representations made by the inspector of the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Mr. R. A. Nicol, the Wellington City Corporation milk department has agreed to request the city engineer’s department to roughen up the left-hand side of the road, so that horses going up Ellice Street from Nelson Street to Brougham Street will have a more secure foothold. The society has been concerned for some time over this matter, as in wet weather, when the roads are slippery, the horses were forced to zig-zag across the road, and even then were constantly slipping. With fast-moving motor traffic from the tunnel there was always danger of an accident.
