GARAGE WRECKED
Lifted Bodily by Cyclone
Dominion Special Service. New Plymouth, July 16.
A corrugated iron garage at North Egmout was completely wrecked this morning when it was picked up bodily by a cyclone and hurled against a cottage a chain away. Later in the morning a similar disturbance of lesser proportions tore several sheets of iron from the veranda of an old house. The first cyclone struck the garage from the south-east at about 6 a.m., and leaving one or two of the vertical studs, lifted the building up a 12-foot bank and cast it against the side of the cottage. The walls were stripped of iron almost completely, and the roof was turned over until it now leans drunkenly on the roof of the cottage. One sheet of iron lies about 50 yards from the garage, and a smaller piece about 100 ards away. The garage was empty at the time. No damage was done to the hostel.
