EXPECTED SOON

Agreement at London Meat Conference PROGRESS REPORTED An agreement with the British Government in respect of meat from New Zealand is expected to be announced very soon. As far as can be learned at Wellington, further progress on the protracted negotiations in London has been made with conditions favouring anticipation of a definite settlement. Interviewed on the question yesterday, the Acting-Prime Minister, Hon. Sir Alfred Ransom, said that a cablegram had been received from the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, in reply to the cable message forwarded to him by the Government last Friday, but Sir Alfred explained that he still was unable to disclose any details of the communications from Mr. Coates, as these were strictly confidential. It could only be said generally that an agreement was anticipated.
