“EVERYGIRL DAY”
Y.W.C.A. Street Appeal Plans for "Everygirl Day,” to be held in Wellington to-day, have all been completed, and there is every indication that this somewhat unique form of street collection will prove one of the most successful ever held in Wellington. Several attractions will be seen in the streets to-day. The pie-cart run by a group of enthusiastic helpers promises to be a popular innovation. Hot pies of many varieties, and coffee will be on sale from mid-morning to evening at the cart, which will be found near the tramway office behind the Post Office. A friendly clown will give directions.
A special poster parade of Y.W.C.A. activities will take place during the lunch-hour, and also there will be several stalls where delicious home-made dainties will be on sale, also the Blue Triangle Cookery Book. It is hoped that the public will cooperate with the helpers to make the day one to be remembered for its happy giving. The following letter to Miss Stevenson has been received from Sir William Hunt, wishing the Y.W.C.A. success to-morrow :—“The Y.W.C.A. has become a necessary organisation in the life of the community. The service rendered to girls and young women, if not done by the Y.W.C.A., would have to be done by some other organisation. The work of the Y.W.C.A. is carried out by a
large number of voluntary workers, who give their time without charge. The necessary funds to carry out the work are provided by voluntary subscriptions from the public. I can think of no organisation more deserving of public support. I wish you a successful street day on Tuesday next and enclose cheque for £5 toward it."
