L.O.M. Daughters’ Branch

The monthly meeting of the Island Bay Daughters’ branch of the League of Mothers was held recently, Mrs. Hindmarsh being in the chair. After the reading of the minutes and the League hymn, Mrs. Hindmarsh welcomed two girls into membership, reading out our “Daily Resolve.” The speaker for the evening was Miss C. E. Kirk, to whom the girls listened very attentively. Miss Kirk, in telling a little of her work in the office of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, stressed the fact that one of the chief causes of domestic troubles is lack of self-con-trol. Examples of this were very evident from the number of tragedies resulting from excessive drinking, where the husband or wife, never trained to self-control, found themselves unable to break off the habit that was ruining their homes. During the evening the Misses Kirk rendered several items which were much appreciated.
