SUCCESS IN ENGLAND

New Zealand Cricketer

W. E. Merritt, the New Zealander, who since 1932 has been engaged in Lancashire League cricket, has developed into one of the best all-round players in England. On taking up his residence in England, he first played with the Rishton club, but recently transferred to the East Lancashire club, and in two seasons with that club has captured over 100 wickets each season. He has developed into a rapid scoring batsman, and recently hit up 106 not out against Church. He is extremely popular with the Lancashire public, and the East Lancashire club has re-engaged him for a further three seasons. Merritt has advised that he is open for engagement as a cricket coach in New Zealand, and no doubt the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, which is seeking a cricket mentor, will consider his application, though the engagement of a coach from Australia is favoured on the score ot expense.
