R.S.A. Adjourned Meeting
July 10 has been fixed by the executive, which met on XVednesday night, of the XVellington Returned Soldiers’ Association as the date for the resumption of the adjourned annual meeting. The annual meeting on May 29 was adjourned after 11 p.m. during a debate on defence policy. During the meeting it had been resolved to hold an extraordinary general meeting to consider a proposed change in the rules. The adjourned meeting is set down for 7.30 p.m. on July 10. and the extraordinary meeting for 9 p m. the same night. After considering ways of observing Aygust 4, the anniversary of the declaration of war by Great Britain, the executive decided to ask for the cooperation of the Carillon Society in a parade. Details are to be announced later. A march to the carillon and a march past there were suggested The- chairman. Colonel A. Cowles, was appointed the association’s lepresentative on the children’s health camp committee. It was reported that the financial membership stood at 450 on May 1, compared with 307 on the same date last year. Pleasure was expressed at the Red Cross Society’s having decided to issue comforts to all ex-service men in hospital? and other institutions, irrespective of their country of origin, which brought them into line with the R.S.A.
The situation and prospects of the men in the returned soldiers’ camps at Paraparaufnu was considered by the meeting, the necessity of keeping their desires for permanent employment in view being stressed. It was stated that arrangements had been made in conjunction with kindred bodies for an issue of clothing to them.
