PRISONER ESCAPES
Missing From Rangipo Camp By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 27. A prisoner, Edgar Arthur Petersen, aged 27, escaped qn Wednesday night from Rangipo prison camp, near Tokaanu. The missing man, who was wearing prison clothes at tlie time of his escape, was sentenced in Wellington last month to five years’ reformative detention on charges of breaking and entering and theft and breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. He is described as being of sullen appearance. There is a scar over his left eye. When be appeared for sentence before the Chief Justice in Wellington Petersen requested that he should be flogged rather than be declared an habitual criminal. His Honour replied that he had not intended to impose a declaration of habitual criminality. His only reason for not doing so lyas that prisoner was still a young man.
