HIT WITH LEAD PIPE
Assault in Ngahauranga Gorge Reported » TRAVELLER’S ALLEGATION By Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plymouth, June 27. An allegation that be was attacked by a man with a*lead pipe while driving a car in Ngahauranga Gorge, Wellington, this morning, was made by a Normnnby man, Mr. Allan Kennedy, tonight. Mr. Kennedy said that while on his way to Thorndon station to join the Taranaki express he was overtaken by a luxurious car, the driver of which offered him a lift. lie admired the ear and was permitted to drive It through the gorge. He said that while returning through the gorge he saw in the mirror his companion raise a hand with a weapon and strike. Mr. Kennedy ducked and the blow struck him on the side of the head. A struggle ensued and several blows were struck. Then Mr. Kennedy jumped out of the car and he offered to fight his assailant. The challenge was accepted, and Mr. Kennedy struck the man on the jaw, jumped into the car and drove to Johnsonville, where lie caught the express. He said the police at Palmerston North were informed.
