Sir Alan Anderson lias been adopted as Conservative candidate for the City of London vacancy caused by the elevation to the peerage of Mr. E. C. Grenfell. Sir Alan Anderson, G.8.E., is a director of the London, Midland ami Scottish Railway, the Bank of England and the Suez Canal Company, and deputy-lieuten-ant of the City of London, He was High Sheriff of the County of London in 1922. president of the Chamber of Shipping ot the United Kingdom in 1924-25, and president of the Association of Chambers ot Commerce in 1933-34.
