DISMISSAL OF POLICE OFFICIALS
Sensation in American City SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS MADE By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received June 25. 9.50 p.m.) Vancouver, June 24. Ever since Edward Bremer’s family was held up for 200.000 dollars ransom by St. Paul kidnappers. United States Government police have been quietly investigating the St. Paul Police Department. To-day Chief of Police Michael Culligan and eight of his leading officials were dismissed. Some will be prosecuted for a “startling connection between police and gamblers conducting a racehorse lottery on a large scale." There was also an alleged sensational illicit connection between police and lawyers specialising in criminal cases and with organised prostitution, also the “tip-off” system on raids. On January 18 of last, year it was reported that Edward Bremer, banker, aged 36, a member of a wealthy family controlling large brewing interests, was kidnapped when motoring to his office and held for n ransom of 200,000 dollars. On February 8. on payment of the ransom, he was released. His eyes had been covered with tape for 22 days and he had been beaten during his captivity.
